We're sad to announce that Oroko Radio will be going on an indefinite broadcast hiatus for the foreseeable future. Oroko Radio is a not-for-profit organisation, with the majority of our work funded by grants, collaborations or done by our team for free. Sadly, we do not have the resources to keep broadcasts running in the long term, and our work has become unsustainable. Our small team has suffered from serious burnout trying to keep the station alive.

Moving forward, you will see us working on various events, workshops and projects over the next few months. We are honouring our existing commitments, as well as taking on relevant opportunities with low financial risk that allow us to amplify the incredible talents of our global community of residents. 

If we’re able to secure adequate funding and build a new structure that is more sustainable, we hope to come back from this hiatus. In the meantime, our online archive of radio shows will be maintained.

How can you support us? 

1. Advocate for us! Share the impact that Oroko Radio has had, especially to people with resources. 

2. Purchase our merchandise - available to purchase online, as well as in store at Lokko House in Accra, and the Patta Store in Lagos.

3. Subscribe to our Patreon and/or Substack.

4. Attend our upcoming events and listen back to our radio show archive.

5. Follow Oroko Studios, a project we are working on to help us generate independent income to fund our community initiatives.

We want to extend a special thank you to all our residents and guests, past and present, for their dedication and contribution to this collective vision. With over 500 people contributing from across North America, South America, Asia, Europe and Africa, Oroko Radio would not be what it is without every single one of you!

We hope this isn’t goodbye forever. We want to thank you for going on this journey with us, and believing in our vision over the past 4 years. We hope to see you at some of our upcoming events, and fingers crossed we can come back at some point stronger than ever.
